The emulator features a just-in-time (JIT) processor emulation core which dynamically translates PPC code into x86 code, caching the results. Despite running only on x86 host architectures, the JIT emulation core runs at least 10 times as fast as the architecture-independent generic processor emulation core. However, according to the man pages supplied with Debian's packages of PearPC, even the JIT core runs around 40 times slower than the host machine would if executing native code.[citation needed]

Until December 2005 PearPC advanced quickly in speed, stability and features. After that time, however, there was no new release until July 2011 - five and a half years later. Individuals had also been working on builds with more features such as native CD-ROM support and even progress in emulating sound had begun.[citation needed] Builds including AltiVec emulation to run applications that require a PowerPC G4 processor were also produced, although there were numerous problems (mainly interface glitches) with running Mac OS X Tiger using such builds which were not resolved. Support for graphics acceleration was also worked on, which in theory should provide a major performance boost due to OS X's hardware-accelerated GUI known as Quartz Extreme which is currently not supported in PearPC.[citation needed]

- edited February 2014Hello, I have searched to Internet for direction on how to do this but all of the directions say 'downlaod and use it'. The directions are very basic. Cab anyone provide me with more specific instructions (i.e. How to start it, creating the disk image, etc.) BTW I'm running Mac OS X Mavietkc s with Ubuntu in VirtualBox. Any help will be much appreciated

Are you trying to install PearPC inside the Ubuntu VM running on OS X 10.9 to run OS X 10.1? If so, that sounds incredibly painful... surely there's a better way.

Yeah, I was just going to leave that alone... but since you said something... the way I would go about it is:
Run PearPC inside a Ubuntu VM inside VirtualBox running on Windows Vista inside of Microsoft VirtualPC running on Windows 8 in a VMWare VM on ESXi. Stability is important.- No, the steps for windows don't work on linux. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be so hard to do this. I did install PearPC on my Ubuntu computer, but I can't get PearPC to boot from the disk image. Any idea on how to do that

I found you a video for you. All though it's for tiger (aka. mac 10.2) and you want to install puma (aka. mac 10.1). But it's a tutorial and I hope this is some help to you.

Oh. My bad, what do I know I;m a windows guy not a mac guy. But it could still help him. Right?Tiger is 10.4, not 10.2.- I installed Puma just fine by following the steps in the video.
Tiger... not so much. The install seemed to go fine, but when I tried to boot off the HD image, PearPC gave me an error about the disk not being bootable.
As a side note, if you want networking support, you'll have to install TAP-Win32: http://www.openhip.org/wiki/index.php?t ... n32_driver
I don't know if it works because I wasn't able to boot Tiger.
